Practise with others

The Portrait Practice Circle — draw alongside others, with a trained eye in the room.

Practising on your own builds skill, but drawing alongside other students stretches you in a different way. Faces, expressions, realism — the weekly Portrait Practice Circle gives you regular challenges that are hard to set for yourself, and honest oversight of your work while you draw, not after it.

Here's how a session runs: I open with a new challenge — never told to you beforehand — then we split into small breakout groups and draw together for about an hour. Most people finish with two to four drawings. We come back together at the end to look at them, and sharing is encouraged but never compulsory.

And this isn't just a group that gathers to draw. Every session is guided by Anne-Marie, a working Spirit Artist and a teacher of more than 25 years. She can spot the lessons each person needs in the moment — and, together with the intuitive input of her spirit team, help you reach a deeper level than you'd get to on your own.

Complete beginners to advanced artists are welcome to join any month — book one session, two, or a full month, and mix it up as it suits you. Once you've paid, your Zoom details arrive automatically by email, so joining in is as simple as opening your inbox.

A fair question

Why booking here costs a little more.

You may notice the prices above are a touch higher than booking the same circle through the Portrait of Spirit club website — and it's worth being straight with you about why. On this website, the circle is not a standalone evening. It's tied into your development programme: your practice drawings are marked out of 100, your growth is tracked in your Studio, and the sessions sit alongside the lessons, guidance and Mentor Reports you already have here.

A small part of the price covers that structure — the scoring, the tracking, the oversight — so the hour you spend drawing each week becomes measurable progress rather than a pleasant evening. If you'd rather pay the club rate and attend the sessions on their own, the Portrait of Spirit website is still the right place for you, and you'll be just as welcome there.

A thank-you for commitment

Complete three months of Portrait Practice Circles — at least two lessons a month — and you'll earn a free Mentor Report credit. That's not the reason to come; the reason is what regular practice with a trained expert does for your drawing. The credit simply marks the work you've put in.

Couple the circle with the development programme on this website, commit to one year of continuous practice, and you will see your progress — in your scores, in your confidence, and in portraits that finally say what you sensed.
